Car hire pricing tools compared

A neutral overview of car hire pricing tools: rate shopping, forecasting, event data and rate APIs. What each does, from their own public pages.

Car hire pricing tools fall into four groups: rate shopping (what competitors charge), revenue management (forecasting and setting your prices), event data (what will move demand) and raw rate data (feeds for your own systems). Rate Pulse is a free rate shopping dashboard with customer ratings and dates to watch. The paid tools below go much further in their own areas.

Everything here comes from each company's public pages, press releases or trade press, linked on each tool's page. We checked them all on 7 Nov 2026.

What each one is for

Rate Pulse shows the cheapest and typical daily rate per car category and pick-up day at 38 listed airports, 18 with data today. It ranks every brand by customer rating and lists the holidays and events in the window. It's free. It has no history, alerts, API or booking-system connection, and covers 3-day hires on rentalcars.com only. See how it works.

Checking by hand is free in cash and costly in time. You choose any channel, hire length or date. Our worked example puts a weekly check of 5 competitors at about 2 hours.

RateHighway shops competitor rates to your own spec and can change your rates, from fully manual to fully automated. It lists 50+ app connections and has a separate trend product, RateIndex.

RateGain sells the Rev-AI suite for car rentals: demand forecasting, price recommendations and an AI assistant, Rev-AI Clarity. Its website blocked our requests, so that page relies on press releases and trade press.

MarginFuel is a revenue management system for vehicle rental: forecasting, pricing strategy, fleet and channel management. It also has a free Country Market Insights tool.

PredictHQ supplies event and holiday data by API, with attendance and demand predictions. It doesn't show competitor prices.

Aggregate Intelligence supplies car rental rate data by API and data feeds, including extras like insurance and child seats, and filed rates.

How to choose

Start with the question you need answered.

  • "What is the market charging at my airport this fortnight?" A rate shopping view. Rate Pulse if your airport is covered and 3-day rates are a fair guide. RateHighway or a data feed if you need your own spec.
  • "What price should I set, by day and car type?" Revenue management: RateHighway, RateGain or MarginFuel. These need your booking data and some setup.
  • "When will demand jump?" Event data: PredictHQ, or the dates to watch on each Rate Pulse page for the next 14 days.
  • "I want the raw numbers in my own systems." A data feed: Aggregate Intelligence.

Size matters too. A 20-car independent often doesn't need a forecasting engine yet. A group with several airports and a revenue manager usually does.

Who each kind of tool suits

Free dashboards and hand checks suit small and independent operators, and anyone sizing up a new airport.

Paid rate shopping and revenue management suit multi-location operators and franchise groups with a revenue manager and a booking system to connect.

Event and rate data feeds suit operators, brokers and analysts with a data team and their own pricing models.

If you'd like help matching a tool to your fleet, or connecting market data to your own pricing, that's what our revenue management consulting does.

Questions

Questions

What is the best car hire pricing tool?

It depends on the job. Rate shopping, demand forecasting, event data and raw rate data are different jobs. A small operator wanting a daily market read needs something different from a multi-location group wanting automated pricing.

Do any car hire pricing tools publish their prices?

None of the paid tools on this page published prices on the pages we read on 7 Nov 2026. Most ask you to book a demo or contact sales. Rate Pulse is free.

Which tools connect to a booking system?

RateHighway lists 50+ app connections and MarginFuel has a documented Rental Car Manager integration. RateGain says revAI integrates with industry partners. Rate Pulse doesn't connect to booking systems.
