How to use Dates to watch

Dates to watch lists confirmed events, public holidays and school holidays in the next 14 days at each airport, each with a source.

Dates to watch lists the events and holidays in the same 14 days as the rates that may move demand at that airport. Each item has its date, type, venue or region, a one-line summary and a Source link. Read it next to the market rates to see whether the market has priced the date in.

  1. Open your airport

Scroll past the market rates to Dates to watch.

  2. Read each item

Date or date range, type (sport, conference, festival, public holiday), venue and capacity where known.

  3. Check the source

Click Source to confirm the date and details.

  4. Compare with market rates

Look up your main car type for that pick-up day and the two days before.

  5. Decide

If the market rises and you don't, you're probably underpriced. If it doesn't move, leave your rate.

A worked example

At Christchurch in the Rate Pulse sweep of 7 Nov 2026, Dates to watch listed:

  • Tue 10 Nov: New Zealand Trotting Cup Day, Addington
  • Wed 11 to Fri 13 Nov: Canterbury A&P Show
  • Fri 13 Nov: Canterbury (North & Central) Anniversary Day, marked Regional: NZ-CAN
  • Sat 14 Nov: New Zealand Cup Day, Riccarton Park

In Market rates by pick-up day, the typical economy rate went from NZ$139 for 11 Nov to NZ$203 for 12 Nov. The jump lines up with the show week.

Things to know

  • Events are confirmed from official or reputable sources for those dates. Treat them as pointers, not a forecast.
  • Regional holidays show their region code.
  • Some airports have nothing listed for a fortnight. Bali had none in the 7 Nov sweep.
  • It covers 14 days only. For the months ahead, read the holiday research for your region.
