Price rank

Price rank is your position from cheapest among competitors for the same car type and day. A Madrid example and what a good rank looks like.

Price rank is your position in the list of competitors sorted from cheapest to dearest, for one car type on one pick-up day. Rank 1 is the cheapest.

Formula

Price rank = 1 + number of competitors cheaper than you

Ties share a rank. Always say rank out of how many: "4th of 12" means something, "4th" doesn't.

Worked example

At Madrid Barajas in the Rate Pulse sweep of 7 Nov 2026, the cheapest compact brands over the 14 days were Record Go at about €15 a day and Clickrent at about €16 (NZ$30 and NZ$33, converted). Sixt and Avis were both about €33, which put them 8th of 12 brands on median compact rate. See the Madrid page.

That's across the whole fortnight. Day by day the rank moves, which is why the dashboard shows it per pick-up day.

Why it matters for a rental operator

Brokers sort search results by price by default, so rank drives how many people see you. Being 1st when the next brand is 30% dearer wastes margin. Being 9th of 10 on a quiet day probably costs bookings.

Rank is blunt, though. It ignores the size of the gaps. Read it with the market rate index, which tells you how far off you are.
