Public holidays in Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Argentina 2026 to 2027, for car hire operators

This page lists the national public holidays for 2026 to 2027 in Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Argentina, the countries behind Rate Pulse's six South American airports. The dates come from Nager.Date, a public holiday database, which we checked on 7 November 2026. Argentina's 2026 tourism days come from a news report of the official resolution. Each country ends with rental-demand notes, which are general patterns, not data.

Rate Pulse lists GRU, GIG, BOG, SCL, LIM and EZE. They show "rates coming" until their first sweep, so check the rates index for status.

For 2026 we only list what's still ahead from November. 2027 is listed in full, except Easter Sunday, which is always a Sunday.

School holidays: left out for all five countries. School calendars here are set by states, provinces, regions or cities, and we couldn't open official 2027 calendars for them. As a general pattern, not data: the long school break in all five falls over the southern summer, roughly December to February, with a shorter break in July.

Brazil (GRU, GIG)

Nager.Date marks Carnival as an optional day off and a bank holiday. Cities and states add their own holidays, which we haven't listed apart from São Paulo's.

Demand notes (general pattern, not data)

• Carnival is the big one. In 2027 it runs from the weekend of 6 February to Ash Wednesday, 10 February. Rio and Salvador fill with domestic and international visitors, and São Paulo empties toward the coast.
• 2027 has three Tuesday holidays (7 September, 12 October and 2 November). Many Brazilians take the Monday off to make a four-day weekend, called an emenda.
• Corpus Christi (Thu 27 May) invites a Friday off.

Colombia (BOG)

Colombia moves many holidays to the following Monday, which is why so many fall on a Monday below.

Demand notes (general pattern, not data)

• Colombia has more three-day weekends than almost anywhere. Bogotá residents drive out to warmer towns on these, so expect short, weekend-shaped hires.
• Holy Week 2027 opens with the Saint Joseph Monday holiday (22 March) and ends with Holy Thursday and Good Friday (25 and 26 March). That's two long weekends in one week.
• May to July 2027 has a Monday holiday almost every other week.

Chile (SCL)

Demand notes (general pattern, not data)

• Fiestas Patrias is Chile's biggest holiday. In 2027 both days fall on a weekend, so the usual long break shrinks. Watch for any extra day the government adds.
• June 2027 has two Monday holidays a week apart (21 and 28 June), in the middle of the ski season. Expect Santiago families heading to the mountains.
• Navy Day (Fri 21 May) and Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Fri 16 July) both make long weekends.

Peru (LIM)

Demand notes (general pattern, not data)

• Fiestas Patrias (28 and 29 July) is Peru's main domestic travel week. With Air Force Day on Friday 23 July 2027, many Peruvians will stretch it across the whole week.
• 8 and 9 December 2026 sit midweek together, a natural bridge for a Monday and Tuesday off.
• LIM is also the gateway to Cusco, so international arrivals matter as much as local holidays.

Argentina (EZE)

Argentina's government can add up to three non-working days for tourism each year. For 2026 it chose 23 March, 10 July and 7 December. The 2027 days hadn't been announced in a source we could open on 7 November 2026.

Demand notes (general pattern, not data)

• 5 to 8 December 2026 is a four-day weekend for many workers, thanks to the tourism day. That's the start of the summer season, so expect a busy first weekend for the coast.
• Carnival is a two-day national holiday, which makes a four-day weekend (6 to 9 February 2027) right in the summer holidays.
• In 2027, Good Friday (26 March) and Malvinas Day (Friday 2 April) give two long weekends in a row.
• Independence Day on Fri 9 July 2027 makes a long weekend in July, when Argentina's winter school holidays usually fall. That's a peak for Bariloche and the ski areas.
