Review score benchmarking for car hire brands at your airport

Every brand at your airport ranked by customer rating, with sub-scores for cleanliness, pick-up time and more, against the airport average.

Review score benchmarking means comparing your customer ratings with every other brand at the same airport, part by part. Rate Pulse does it in Every brand, ranked by customers. Each brand gets an overall rating, its price against the market, its desk type, and the sub-scores where it beats or trails the airport average.

Every brand, ranked by customers at Madrid Barajas, with rating, reviews, price vs market, typical compact rate, desk type, advantages and disadvantages.
Madrid Barajas, 7 Nov 2026.

What's in the table

  • rating and number of reviews
  • price vs market, the brand's median compared with the market median for the same car type and day
  • typical compact rate per day
  • desk: in the terminal, shuttle bus, meet and greet or off airport
  • advantages and disadvantages

Seven sub-scores sit behind it: cleanliness, pick-up time, drop-off time, car condition, efficiency, ease of finding the desk and value for money. A sub-score 0.3 or more above the airport average shows as an advantage. 0.3 or more below is a disadvantage.

A worked example from Madrid

The Madrid airport averages in the 7 Nov sweep were 7.2 for pick-up speed and 7.4 for ease of finding the desk.

Clickrent rated 6.8 overall and priced 43% below market. Its pick-up speed was 6.1 and ease of finding 6.2, both flagged. Its depot is a shuttle ride about 6 km away.

Record Go priced 41% below market too, with a shuttle to a depot 5.6 km out. But it rated 7.4 from 23,797 reviews, with pick-up speed at 7.0, inside the 0.3 band. Same price position, a better experience.

Sixt rated 8.3, the top at the airport, with cleanliness at 9.1 and ease of finding at 8.7. It priced 17% above market.

If you ran Clickrent, price isn't the gap to fix. The pick-up is. Lifting pick-up speed from 6.1 to 6.9 or better would clear that flag.

How to use it

  1. Find your brand and read its disadvantages first.
  2. Pick the one sub-score furthest below the average. That's your quarter's project.
  3. Compare yourself with the brand nearest your price. That's who customers weigh you against.

Ratings move slowly, so check monthly. For what to change at the desk, read improving review scores.

Questions

Whose ratings are these?

The customer review scores rentalcars.com shows for each desk, weighted by review count. We don't collect reviewers' names or review text, and we don't check the scores.

Why is a brand with a higher score ranked lower?

The rank adjusts for review count. A score from 9 reviews is pulled towards the airport average, so it can't outrank a slightly lower score from thousands.
