The events that fill Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown, dates checked on each official site on 7 November 2026, and what they mean for car hire and campervan rates.

These are the big New Zealand events from November 2026 to October 2027 that bring visitors into Auckland, Christchurch or Queenstown, with dates checked on each event's official or organiser page on 7 November 2026. For car hire and campervan operators they mean higher demand on specific pick-up days, longer hires around multi-day events, and one-way flows. Price those days on purpose instead of finding out from your booking curve.
This isn't a full events calendar. If we couldn't confirm a date, the event isn't here. Check each link again before you lock in rates or fleet moves.
Rate Pulse's sweep on 7 November 2026 covered pick-ups from 8 to 21 November. That window happens to include Christchurch's Cup and Show Week and the Queenstown Marathon. It's one snapshot in a shoulder month, so treat it as a single example, not a rule.

Two things stand out. At Christchurch, the economy market was 27% above its 14-day median for 12 November pick-ups (203 ÷ 160 = 1.27), and those hires cover Show Day and NZ Cup Day. Compact barely moved. At Queenstown, the economy peak landed on marathon day, but compact didn't peak until 20 November.
So an event lifts some categories and not others. The cheap end tends to sell out first, which pushes the economy median up. Check each category on its own before you raise everything.

Auckland is big enough that a one-night concert rarely shows in airport car hire. The exceptions are the multi-night runs and anything with a single NZ date. Bruno Mars plays three nights at Eden Park in March, inside the summer peak. Fans flying in from other cities need a car for a few days, not just a night.
Fieldays is the odd one out. It's south of Auckland near Hamilton, midweek, in winter. Visitors from out of the region who fly into Auckland need a car to get there. Watch SUV and ute rates as well as economy, and watch for 4-day hires.

Cup and Show Week is the big one, and it stacks. Canterbury Anniversary Day falls on Friday 13 November 2026, so it's a long weekend in the region as well. See our holidays page for the full list.
The Foo Fighters show is a Tuesday in January, in the middle of peak season. Christchurch gets the South Island's only date, so expect fans from Dunedin, Nelson and the West Coast. Some will fly in and hire. Others will drive and want a car back from Christchurch afterwards.
The Coast to Coast runs west to east and finishes in Christchurch. That's a one-way pattern: support crews pick up in Christchurch, drive to the West Coast and come back. If you charge a one-way fee, this is a weekend where it matters. Its official site blocked our check, so the date here is from West Coast Tourism. Confirm it before you plan around it.

Queenstown is a smaller market than Auckland, so one event shows up quickly. The marathon brings runners and supporters for a weekend. They land Friday and leave Sunday or Monday, so the Friday pick-up is the one to watch.
Rhythm and Alps and Challenge Wānaka are campervan events as much as car hire ones. Festival-goers camp. Triathletes bring bikes and want space. Both sit in peak summer, when campervans are already tight, so a minimum rental length over those dates protects you from 2-day bookings that leave gaps on either side.
