Public and school holidays in Australia, Thailand and Bali 2026 to 2027, for car hire operators

By the DayRunner team · 7 November 2026

This page lists public holidays and school holidays for 2026 to 2027 in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, and the official 2027 holiday lists for Thailand and Indonesia. Those are the countries behind Rate Pulse's SYD, MEL, BNE, BKK and DPS airports. Every Australian date comes from a state government page. Thailand's come from the Bank of Thailand and Indonesia's from the Indonesian government. The demand notes are general patterns, not data.

New Zealand has its own page: NZ public and school holidays 2026 to 2027.

For 2026 we only list what's still ahead from November. 2027 is listed in full.

Australia (SYD, MEL, BNE)

Public holidays

NSW also lists a Bank Holiday on Mon 2 Aug 2027. It isn't a declared public holiday: only banks close.

School holidays (government schools)

Victoria publishes term dates, so its holidays are the gaps between terms: term 1 ends Thu 25 March, term 2 runs 12 April to 25 June, term 3 runs 12 July to 17 September, and term 4 runs 4 October to 17 December 2027. NSW lists the Western Division separately, with a later start. Some Queensland regional schools finish summer term early, on 3 December.

Demand notes (general pattern, not data)

• In 2027 Victoria and Queensland break for autumn on Good Friday weekend, but NSW doesn't until 12 April. That gives two separate Easter-season peaks: Melbourne and Brisbane families at Easter, Sydney families a fortnight later.
• Winter holidays in Victoria and Queensland (26 June to 11 July) start a week before NSW (5 July). Expect Melbourne and Brisbane families in Queensland's north and at the ski fields first.
• Anzac Day 2027 is a Sunday. NSW and Queensland get the Monday off. Victoria doesn't.
• Australians are also a big inbound market for New Zealand, Bali and Thailand. Their school holidays move demand at ZQN, DPS and BKK as much as at home.

Thailand (BKK)

These are the Bank of Thailand's 2027 holidays for banks and other financial institutions, including substitution days. It's the most complete official 2027 list we could open. The government's own list for other employers can differ. 2026 dates are left out: we only opened the 2027 notice.

The Thai government can add extra holidays during the year, and the list above won't show those. School holidays: left out. We couldn't open an official Thai school calendar.

Demand notes (general pattern, not data)

• Songkran (13 to 15 April 2027) is Thailand's biggest domestic travel week. Bangkok empties as people head home to the provinces.
• Early May 2027 is a four-day weekend, Saturday 1 to Tuesday 4 May: the Labour Day substitute on the Monday and Coronation Day on the Tuesday.
• December 2027 has two long weekends in one week (Monday 6 and Friday 10 December), then New Year's Eve on a Friday.

Indonesia and Bali (DPS)

From the joint ministerial decree for 2027, as published by the coordinating ministry Kemenko PMK. Cuti bersama are collective leave days. They apply to civil servants, and are optional for private employers.

For the rest of 2026, Nager.Date lists Christmas Day on Fri 25 Dec 2026. We didn't check 2026's collective leave days.

Bali also keeps its own Hindu holidays, such as Galungan and Kuningan. We couldn't open an official list for them, so they're left out. School holidays: left out for the same reason.

Demand notes (general pattern, not data)

• Nyepi is the one date every Bali operator plans around. In 2026 the airport suspended all regular commercial flights for 24 hours. Nyepi 2027 is Monday 8 March, so expect no pick-ups or drop-offs that day and a pile-up either side.
• Nyepi and Idul Fitri land in the same week in 2027 (8 to 15 March, counting the collective leave). Domestic travel across Indonesia peaks around Idul Fitri as people go home, so Bali will see a busy, unusual week.
• Most of DPS's demand is inbound. Australian school holidays drive it more than the Indonesian calendar.

How to use this with Rate Pulse

Rate Pulse shows the next 14 days of pick-ups at each airport, with a Dates to watch section for holidays in that window. This page is the longer view. Check rates for these dates on the airport pages: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Bangkok and Bali.
