Chain of responsibility

Chain of responsibility means an employer or operator can be held liable when a driver breaks the work time rules.

Chain of responsibility means people other than the driver, such as the employer or operator, can be held responsible for a work time breach. The NZTA factsheet lists fines of up to $25,000 for an employer held responsible. Most breaches start on the planning sheet, so that's where to catch them.
